first year report: October 2013
The first full year of established fruit trees and native trees and shrubs, and the site is already exhibiting a degree of maturity. Although all of the apple trees blossomed in May, by August all of the fruit had disappeared, though the medlar tree is displaying an impressive crop of fruit.
Yellow Rattle that had been sown last autumn flowered quite extensively; the central area containing these wild flowers being left to grow, so the seed could mature and spread itself, hopefully to give an even more impressive display next year.
The only casualty from the initial tree planting was the Jubilee Oak, which looked rather sick after a few months, and was replaced in the spring of 2013 by a healthy six foot specimen, which is now thriving.
